The sporty lines and spirited performance of the Van’s Aircraft RV-9 has made it one of general aviation’s most popular homebuilt aircraft. Hangar 9’s P-51 Mustang 60 ARF is a remarkably accurate rendition of America’s favorite fighter airplane. This 60-sized almost-ready-to-fly airplane was designed and crafted to be the most realistic sport-scale ARF on the market. It is constructed of lightweight balsa and plywood, and the entire airframe is fully sheeted to maintain the model’s strict scale appearance and strong flight performance. Scale airfoils were used to maintain the exact scale outline of the P-51’s tail surfaces, and the control surfaces feature scale hinge lines as well. Even the location of the tail wheel matches that of the full-scale P-51. The functioning flaps facilitate scale takeoffs and landings while the internally mounted flap and elevator linkages preserve the scale outline. The P-51 Mustang features a plug-in, two-piece wing and plug-in airfoiled stab/elevator sections for easier assembly and disassembly.

For the ultimate, realistic flight experience, the P-51 comes with all-metal mechanical spring-loaded strut assemblies. These retracts are easy to use—no previous retract experience is necessary.

The P-51 comes out of the box with all kinds of details that have been finished for the consumer, including a factory-painted fiberglass cowl, removable scale antenna, scale-shaped spinner, scale tires and hubs, scale guns, and much more. For a high-quality outer surface and realistic appearance, the P-51 is dressed with a printed, scale-like flat finish UltraCote® covering.

Hangar 9’s new Funtana 125 follows on the popular Funtana platform with another high-performance aerobatic performer. However, what makes the Funtana 125 stand out in a crowd is its new, painted trim scheme. Whereas other model schemes are limited to the appearance created with covering material, the new painting techniques give this model a modern, aggressive styling like nothing else on the market.

Its large control surfaces make this plane a true sport performer capable of extreme 3D moves from hovers to harriers, knife-edge loops to blenders—the Funtana can handle all-out aerobatic maneuvers. Pilots wanting the perfect plane to practice their precision aerobatic and 3D prowess need look no further than the Funtana 125.

Made of top-quality balsa and ply construction, the Funtana’s structure is lightweight yet durable. The bolt-on wing and stab disassemble quickly and easily for convenient storage and transport to the flying field. A removable top hatch provides admittance to the plane’s fuel tank or batteries. This ARF includes durable aluminum landing gear as well as a fiberglass cowl and wheel pants.

The Funtana 125 ARF was designed to use the latest in model engine technology; it designed to accommodate the new Saito 20cc 4-stroke gasoline engine (NYA). The Saratoga 40 ARF from Hangar 9 is the perfect .40-size airplane for relaxed sport flying. Characterized by an open cockpit and rounded tail surfaces, this airplane’s looks are timeless from nose to tail. Its classic styling is reminiscent of aviation subjects from the 1930s. The Saratoga is also dressed with UltraCote® in a classic scheme. The black and white checkerboard design on the bottom of the wing contrasts the clean, sharp lines on the top of the wing—making it easy for the pilot to distinguish orientation in the sky. And, the included pilot figure looks natural in the cockpit.

Because of the stability provided by the mid-wing (or shoulder wing) placement, the Saratoga is a great second or third airplane. Despite its casual feel and easy handling, this airplane provides plenty of aerobatic thrills for a pilot of any skill level. The Saratoga is constructed from sturdy, lightweight balsa and plywood, and includes factory-painted fiberglass cowl and wheel pants. For sport flying fun off land or water, this 40-size sport plane also comes with float mounts so the 40-size Hangar 9 floats (HAN4015) can bolt right on. Assembly is easy because a lot of the work is already complete. The control surfaces are pre-hinged and the control horns are already installed. For convenient storage and transport to the flying field, the two-piece bolt-on wing removes quickly and easily, and the bolt-on tail ensures proper alignment and means no gluing is necessary.

The Saratoga can be flown either glow or electric. A clear cowl is included to assist in glow engine installation. In addition, all of the hardware is included to fly electric right out of the box—no conversion necessary.

The success of the RV series helped Van’s Aircraft, founded in 1973 by Richard VanGrunsven, become and remain one of the most popular homebuilt airplane kit manufacturers in the world.
